Asset separation or not?
Which do you prefer? Funds that mix assets (balanced or equity-income) or separate stock funds and bond funds. I have a mix of funds across the risk spectrum but am considering a change.

I mostly separate, to place different type funds tax efficiently in the best account type for each.

I don't own bonds in an after-tax account, for tax efficiency.

Same here. Like to do my own rebalancing.
Like that control over what percentages to keep or move.

I am presently moving from 10-15 different individual funds to 3 market index funds to simplify my life; like the Boglehead 3-fund portfolio. Trying to pick the next winning segment is not my forte. I'll still be high in equities, higher than most my age. All of our investments are currently in pre-tax retirement accounts so tax efficiency is not a concern at the moment. The expense ratio for this type of investment is very-very low.
