Gas at our favorite Exxon went from $4.19 on March 9th (the last time I filled up) to $4.58 today.

That's not much of an increase! Seems to me they're going to have to get a move on, if they want gas to be $6.20 by the end of summer.

I'll be happy to send your concern on to Exxon's complaint dept... Maybe they can raise the prices quicker in the New Orleans area to meet your expectations.

Even better, maybe they could point out to the public how well they are doing in keeping the prices from increasing as fast as those crazy predictions! Sounds like a good advertising point, to me.

Gasoline inventories are off their lows in the US, with all PADDs rebounding higher. The east coast (PADD1) are meandering higher.

Since Monday the gas in our area has dropped from near $5 to the $4.70-ish range. A gas station I pass to and from golfing was at $4.89 Tuesday, then $4.73 today. GasBuddy has the closet Sheetz (less than 1/2 mile from Costco) at $4.65, so I am guessing Costco may be down to $4.45-$4.50.

Locally, gas had crept up from $5.00 to about $5.19 over the past month. But now, it's all the way back down to $4.99! I guess that's a good thing??

My parents bought gas near Columbia SC earlier this week for $4.04. Gas prices around here (CLT, NC) have dropped about 30 cents in the last few weeks.

Steadily declining here too. From a high of $4.599/gal down to $4.399/gal now. Fingers crossed but I wouldn’t bet on anything. On the bright side we have a $0.60/gal fuel point discount that will get us through most of July.

Saw a bunch of news pieces recently interviewing potential air travelers. One recurring theme was that lots of folks are now planning to drive instead of fly. If so, fuel prices may well go back up though I have no personal expertise on the subject (other than 9th grade econ., you know, supply vs demand.) YMMV

I was on a road trip Thursday 6/30, across 3 adjoining states. I saw/bought at 5.47 in illinois, 4.47 in Wisconsin and 5.05 in Michigan (UP). I'm not certain how much of that was taxes vs opportunistic locale. But come on guys, this spread is ridiculous for one day.

By Illinois, I assume you mean Chicago area, they spiked massively. Typically they run about 30-50 cents more than here and now they are running $1-$1.20 more. I assumed it was refinery related since they need a special blend.

Just like when prices were $2 (+/-) I see price rises or drops of $0.30 to $0.35 within a week. I assume dealers are maximizing profits based on time of the week and the amount of fuel they have in their tanks. With that kind of variability within weeks, it's not too amazing to see large differences in prices state to state or even city to city. YMMV

Some states like CA and IL have much more strict fuel blends, which have pushed prices up a lot more in the last 6 months. It’s one of the main reasons CA is > $6 gallon

The best deal near me is still buying at Costco with the Costco 4% bonus. But, there are times I am not near a Costco, or I may not have time to wait in the lines. (Though they seem to be shortening quite a bit in the last two weeks.)
You can use your Chase visa card at the costco pumps and get 5%

I'd be curious just how much of that 50% actually is spent on roads. I've never objected to taxes actually spent on roads/bridges, etc. I just don't like to see it spent on other things. Obviously, in the USA, we either don't tax enough or we don't spend all the taxes on roads but YMMV.

Since it is government controlled I would suspect the later or else there is a lot of shovel leaning from the construction crew. You see it all the time throughout Florida. The same stretch of road completion up north that takes place during the summer takes a couple of years in Florida. It has been that way for decades.

Cheers!
