Back above $3M
Back on Nov 19, 2021 I posted a celebratory thread about hitting NW of $3M (ex RE). Well a few days after I posted that, my portfolio dropped below that mark and I have stayed below since. Well, as of close prices yesterday I am officially back above. Wow, that took a while. Here's to hoping I stay above and am able to post a future thread celebrating $4M!

I suppose we are in that ballpark too but I don't keep track. The only predictable aspect of the market, as JP Morgan said, is that it will fluctuate.

I track stuff like this too. I am sorta geeky that way.
We hit the $3m mark in 2015 and now we are over 2x that amount even with taking 3 years of expenses out of the portfolio. So if my math is right that’s a 9.1% average return per year over the last 8 years. All things considered I’ll take that.

I remember when I finally hit my “magic number” and patted myself on the back by posting here. Nice replies as usual. However, someone (REW, I think) wisely observed that I might want to get used to crossing that magic mark, the market being what it is. That was absolutely correct but I got used to it.

Hopefully the federal debt discussions and looming default don't drive the numbers way down again.

Congratulations...
My first million was by far the hardest to earn and took the longest to get and was the most exciting to see on my spreadsheet. I even had to make the column wider on my spreadsheet. Million number two came 10 times quicker and much easier but still it was a noteworthy milestone. By the time I got to three million, IIRC, it was just another number. I'll never get to 10m so I quit tracking it so closely. I still try to figure up my NW annually (at tax time) but other than that, I just let it ride.

$3M was my original target. So, there was some significance to it for me. With inflation, I'd like to get closer to $4M before I call it quits.

My first million was the only milestone I really tracked. Hitting that was very near the time my pension/health care supplement vested. At that point I felt that I could relax a bit and not worry too much about my j*b. Miraculously, at about the same time, I snookered megacorp into giving me an assignment that I actually liked. It took them 7 years to figure out that I actually liked what I was doing - and then take it away from me. By then, by all imaginable measures, I was FI. So, no one more year, no one more month, no one more week. I was outta there. Millions are just numbers but FIRE is for real.

Congrats!
I took a look at my numbers today and I'm almost at my portfolio high today: .28% off. The high is from 1/3/2022, so it took ~17 months to get (back) to this point.
It's a good feeling.

Everyone that has posted is talking NW is that correct. I haven't checked since the first day of last month.

I have a feeling that the market has just recovered 50% of its loss from the peak, how could you already get back to the previous top?

Interesting. That is why I was wondering if everyone is on the same page. NW or money portfolio.

S&P500 is down about 12% from its high.
Some of us are still working and saving. We’ve been buying the last 17 months at lower prices.
My numbers are for portfolio. Actual NW is better due to increase in real estate values.

I am not back to ‘21’s high, but about $300k over ‘22 and that’s with taking 6 figures of living expenses out.
