I own the Vanguard Inerm-Term US Treasury Fund (VFITX) and have a question. So it trades at $11.74 a share Friday and goes up and down, shouldn't the bonds and therefore the fund, be distributing interest all the time? Where would I see this?

This seems pretty basic, but I am new to bond funds after being 100% allocated stock index guy.

Got it thanks. Ofen wonder why performance stats on these funds don't reflect these distributions being reinvested, when looking up their ticker symbols on Yahoo or Google. Seems important.

bond funds that pay monthly usually dont count their interest in the nav every day so you wont see the fund drop when its paid. funds that pay quarterly usually do reflect it in their nav and the fund will drop with the payout. check your specific fund to be sure

Must be a very recent acquisition for you since Vanguard bond funds paid out dividends on Friday. Did you buy through your Vanguard account or a different account? If Vanguard, just login and look at what happened to your VFITX.

Yeah, I bought it Jan 4th through my Bank of America investment account. Just didn't see the transactions on my history until today. Seems like a solid play so far. Safe and steady as I limp into my ER.

another option - join M* (or Yahoo finance or ...) for free and create a portfolio based on your holdings and set up notifications for tracking and news. most portfolio sites offer this option. not sure if Vanguard has this feature.
i get news from M* for fund distributions. i turned off email notification because it got overwhelming, quickly. but everytime i log on, it there was a distribution of any kind, there is a NEWS items at the bottom underneath my portfolio listing.
