This well-crafted book presents the historical background on index funds and then presents an excellent summary of the evidence from a wide variety of academic papers on the quest for alpha by mutual funds and investors in mutual funds. The book clearly presents the case that there’s an overwhelming body of evidence demonstrating that trying to outperform the market is a loser’s game.

I've not read this myself yet - my library does not have it - not that I need any more convincing. But I did not see mention of this book here yet so I thought there may be some interest. I do see reference in another post to the author, Rick Ferri, being a frequent Bogleheads contributor.

BTW, I just checked Amazon and the first 134 pages are available for preview. Much less was available at first, until I hit back then forward on my browser. Not sure if that is a glitch or a well known trick or what.
