Update on the bogus end of year RMD basis:

I called Schwab and explained the issue......fell on deaf ears....but the associate said they would pass the message to the "retirement folks". Never heard a word back.

This morning I received an email message to go to my account and there will be a letter there....OK?

Signed in and found a three page letter explaining the RMD basis, how much to pull, etc, etc. The numbers in the letter match my calculations. So apparently, when Schwab initiated the "Take my RMD page", they screwed up (but won't admit it).

I have been pulling RMDs for 8 years now and NEVER have I received a three page detailed letter from Schwab. Mostly, I would get a reminder to pull the RMD and then do that.

All is good now.

It does sound like Schwab did not adjust their web page properly. It's nice to have a detailed 3-page explanation that lists every step of the calculation, as they do it.

I have no idea how they got to the bogus numbers on the original web page. I'll bet I was not the only person to see that and that they were swamped with calls about the error. Maybe that's why they sent out the detailed (and correct) RMD calculation letters.

Now I have a document to keep in my files as to what basis the RMD was taken.
