The world keeps changing around this pandemic. We're learning more and more every day and still don't seem to be a whole lot closer to knowing how this all ends. But, I'm hopeful our brilliant scientists will figure this out and the world will find some level of normalcy.

On a brighter note, Your LIST update is here! We have lots of updates (i.e. December's getting busy! ) and several additions to the 2020 Class, so please welcome them aboard the train!

PLEASE NOTE: I went back through the forum and added "Announcement" links to all who notified us of their successful retirement. If you find an error, please let me know as this is a bit of a tedious cut & paste task! Also, if you'd like your Announcement to point somewhere else, let me know - I can do that, too! LoL - I also just found out that there is a limit of 15 emoticons per post - so no more smilies from me!!

Congratulations to everyone that's "Made It" so far! Livin' the dream (although likely in isolation)!

Congratulations, georgemoe! And thanks for the well-timed update. I was able to edit my post above to include your update. (The ability to edit a post times out after awhile - not sure how long that is).

Last Holiday Weekend prework!

Not to take away from the meaning of Memorial Day, but for years I always got a bit depressed, especially in the evening, as work loomed. The weather finally warmed a bit, kids were almost at the end of school, and my summer was going to be like the rest of the year--working M - F. Now I will be fine tomorrow night, as I will be heading in to my final month! I can almost taste it

Congrats to all of you who are already retired. Sadly, thanks to coronavirus, I'm delayed. Hoping to be out by November 15 now, but who knows. I'm working part time though, and enjoying that.

6 weeks from today.
I have all my daily duties turned over to the new team. I have been helping train some rookie sales folks.
Tick tock.

I feel you! It's a roller coaster and a bit draining. This week was my "give formal notice or adjust the tiller" for me. I had already adjusted the tiller to delay to the end of the year. One day I feel like maybe I should just pull the trigger now and the next I think, maybe I should wait a bit more. Looking at the end of the year and may decide to w*rk until April 2021 with 100% of pay going into TSP just to give me one more "year" of contributions. I really want to stay in the class of 2020 but that's not really a smart criteria!

I'm still looking pretty good as far as assets go (the math works but I'd feel more comfortable with a bigger buffer) but want to see what happens with COVID-19 both with respect to my portfolio and the life I'd lead in FIRE. I do plan to earn money doing things I enjoy and if I'm going to be stuck at home instead of playing I may as well stay on the payroll. (really hoping to ease in by earning enough to cover my expenses and stay under the ACA threshold). Not the stereotypical OMY as I will not be committed to work or dependent on the income but it will definitely give a boost/cushion and if I can get paid to have fun then why wouldn't I?!

Congrats to all those recently retired from the Class of 2020! I dream of the day I can quit work and start that next chapter of my life. Until then I’ll follow along as all of you retire.

Here goes! Our goal has been to have a sabbatical and to semi-FIRE and it looks like well get the opportunity soon, since my position is being eliminated. I asked for it, actually, when it became clear this week that the team I manage was going to be whacked to balance the budget. It was either that or Id have to lay-off people who are less financially secure. Id much rather have a smooth exit with good feelings from my manager and coworkers and get on with the next chapter.

My sentence was extended by two weeks!
The company offered an enhanced retirement for a larger block of folks. My release date is now a firm June 12th

I can only speak for myself, but I really enjoyed my part-time online gig, for 5 years; as I've posted I "felt" retired and with more time to hike and flyfish, my blood pressure and health really improved.

Parttiming (and the portfolio) also allowed DW to retire before me. (Originally, she was supposed to work until I got closer to SS age; instead she retired at the same age I semi-retired. She was not enjoying her work.)

After a strange couple of weeks I finally was informed on June 4th that June 5th was my last work day.

My exit interview is Monday.
It doesnt seem real yet!
I am pretty happy, all things considered....

Well,
I didnt get to retire exactly as planned.
Originally was going to be on vacation this month and be officially retired July 6th.
The company offered an enhanced retirement package to entice more to leave. Since I took the enhancement my last day was Friday June 5th.
I am now officially official!!
