Filing an amended Tax Return - 5 Rules

Interesting article, and I never knew that you were not obligated to file an amended return if your original return was correct, to the best of your knowledge.

5 Simple Rules to Follow When Amending Your Tax Return - Forbes

1.Amended returns aren’t mandatory
2.You can’t cherry-pick what you correct.
3.Some errors don’t merit amending
4. Timing counts.
5. Only paper will do.

#3 Some errors don't merit amending.

FYI (from a past life) a "no-change" audit is owing less than $50. Might want to use that as your threshold to decide to amend or not. I've been away from that world for a long time now, so I assume that amount would still be true.

Amended returns aren't that difficult. I do about a dozen a year.
