Opened it on 12/1, funded the $50 from a connected checking account on 12/2. $150 received on 12/23. Woo-Hoo!

Well I'll be damned! I just looked, and there it is! I got my $150 and I just checked my uncle's account, and he got his as well.

One thing I can't remember though...don't you have to keep the account open for something like 90 days, or you forfeit it? In my case, I just had it added to the $50 in the savings account, as I do my Roth with another company.

You have to leave the bonus in the account for 90 days.

"Account holders must maintain the bonus award (minus any losses related to trading or market volatility, or margin debit balances) in the account for at least 90 days from the date on which the bonus award is credited to the account. Fidelity may charge accounts that fail to comply with this requirement the cost of the bonus award."

Thanks, Sue. I thought I remembered reading something to that extent. Still, even with that little constraint, it was a nice Christmas bonus!

Did you open individual accounts or joint accounts? Would it matter for the bonus?

These were individual. It shouldn't matter.

I would think 2 single accounts get 2x $150, vs a joint account gets $150.

The $150 offer expired, but Fidelity still offers a free $100 when you deposit $50 at https://www.fidelity.com/go/special-offer

Thanks for the link. I was going to add another brokerage account anyway so might as well earn a few bucks. I had to make sure the offer I did in 2021 didn't exclude me from this offer and it appears it doesn't.

I received $150 bonus on Dec. 22, but it looks like Fido consolidated 1099 did not include this for 2022. Does anyone know or experience how to report this for 2022 tax or Fido will include this for 2023 income, as the bonus needs to stay in the account for 90 days anyway?
Thanks in advance for any input...

From the FAQs about the offer (https://www.fidelity.com/go/special-...s-conditions):

Quote:
Cumulative bonus awards credited to taxable accounts associated with your social security number or tax identification number, as applicable, including those held at an affiliate of Fidelity, totaling $600 or more within a calendar year will appear on your consolidated Form 1099. You are encouraged to consult with your tax professional about appropriate tax reporting and treatment relating to this bonus award and the deposit of the bonus award in your account. Any taxes resulting from the bonus award are your responsibility.
I am no tax genius, but this seems to indicate that if this is your only bonus award from them in 2022, it will not appear on a 1099.

This raises the question, I assume we still have to report it. Does anyone know what form we put it on and how we characterize it?

My guess would be the "other income" line (8z) on Schedule 1.
