How to check out financial advisors

I learned recently that the federal government now makes available publicly various disclosures on registered financial advisors. In case you have one and are interested, scroll to the bottom of this link and plug in their name.

From a quick look, it appears to be accessing the same data that has been available at https://brokercheck.finra.org/

IMO this should be the first stop/before making contact with an advisor of any kind.

I would still run a brokercheck if you get a named individual. Among other things it will tell you how long they have been in the business. That would be a credibility criterion for me.

+1. Our assigned Vanguard PAS advisor has a clean history and has been there since 2009.
