I Bond Rate May 2019

Time for a new composite I Bond rate. It’s 1.90% from May-Oct 2019.

[ADDED] Fixed component is 0.50%.

Oh - wow, they didn’t lower the fixed component as I expected. That’s quite a surprise!

I expected the 1.90% for the prior issue, as that’s what the last six months CPI told us. If you bought last month you would get 6 months of 2.83% before dropping to 1.90%.

Yes, I’ve been getting that rate on a bond bought last November. I’ve only held I Bonds since 2015 (didn’t know about them before) and don’t consider them as part of my investment portfolio at all. Rather I think of them as savings, just as they’re named.
