I think it's time to set a date....

I'm ready to boogie on out of my j-o-b. I want to wait until I use all my vacation days, which wont be for about a month or 2.

I re-worked my plan, and as it is, NOT working my 9-5, I should will be 10k-20k wealthier 1 year after I give it up. I do plan on working my current self owned j*bs at the current pace. I also plan on helping my old man out a bit with his company, maybe 20 hrs/month doing some general contacting type stuff (paint, drywall mainly).

With my current rental income, and the income of my numerous streams, I will be in the positive from here on out...even without my 9-5!!!!!!!!!!

How cool is that?!?!?! I need to set a date and stick to it. Im thinking Jan 1 2007. That gives me a little more time to squirrel away some cash (I do have about 2 years reserves though).

I cant wait...I am actually going to do this. If it wasnt for this board, I never would have dreamt it was possible!!!!

Thanks

Don't let him fool you TF, it is more fun in the doing. The real calculation is (1/2 the fun * years planning - angst factor/yr if work really sucks) vs. (1/1 fun * years experiencing).

Re: I think it's time to set a date....

You need to do what you feel is right. You'll know... if a few more days of work make you feel more secure, there's nothing wrong with that.

It's kind of like the pay your mortgage off vs keep the mortgage and invest the money debate. Only you know what's right for you. Don't push it if you're not ready.

On paper, I'm sooo ready. I just think I'm brainwashed with the rest of the working class. The idea of those steady paychecks keeps me yearning for more. But my paltry takehome isnt much to look at, and can easily be forgotten a few months down the road...

Just be sure to leave on very good terms, thanking your employer for the great experience or whatever. Never know when you will want a reference. And you will be self employed, you want people saying great things about you.

Good luck. I am impressed by your tenacity.

Congrats! I'll be sure to drink a cold beer in your honor on Oct 1st. * Of course I do that each day anyway as someone is always retiring somewhere in this world.*

I hear you. It is very hard to have the strength of one's convictions when there is a hefty sum at stake. But if all the numbers work and you have thoroughly probed the potential downside scenario, you really should "just do it." Oh how it has cost me to stand on the sidelines with analysis paralysis...

Analysis paralysis. LOL Good phrase.

My personal motto has been...when in doubt don't. That has served me well, although I tend to be more anxious than some.

Thefed....You obvious are a 'go getter' and I suspect you'll succeed at whatever you do... you wouldn't allow yourself not to..

Good for you! I'm sure things will go well.

Just make sure you leave on good terms. You never know: they may counter-offer.

I already have the magic # in my head.... offer me xx dollars salary PLUS paid health bennies and I'm in.
