Re: Last minute filing blues...
I just heard tonight on the local news that New Englanders have an extra week to get state and federal taxe returns submitted.

Till yesterday it was only a 2 day extension for federal stuff and the state(MA) hadn't figured out whether they were going to give an extension. Also the feds till yesterday said that they would know if people were affected based on list of affceted towns etc. Schumer seems to have taken care of the proof stuff - would have been useful before the deadline. Wonder what the states would do.

That is exactly why I wait until 2nd week of April before completing my 1040. The last one usually comes the 1st week of April. Another reason to consolidate accounts. Mine actually save me a few bucks ... but probably not worth a 're-do'. Hence my wait.
... 'ouch ' on the your audit description ... the painful picture flashed through my mind ... and I 'm still having trouble getting rid of it (he says as he anxiously awaits his colonoscopy in May).

This happened to us two years in a row. I didn't file amended returns. So far I haven't heard anything. . . .

Anybody who thinks that filing at any other time changes the chance of being audited is being delusional..... they don't even start to check for audits for a year... (not talking about the computer 1099 check... I am talking about the real audits)... so all returns are 'in' when they do their check..

Re: Last minute filing blues...
Once again I filed a paper return because Vanguard's Turbo Tax will not allow me to file usiing a foreign address. If I e-file using my parent's US address, I get letters from the nice folks at the State Tax Department.
Part of the "expat" tax I guess :
