You can skip the nosey registration process by going to the BugMeNot.com web page: http://bugmenot.com and entering the New York Time's article URL. This will generate a login and password for you which you plug into the NYT's registration form without having to answer the prying questions.

I have to quibble with this point in the NYT article:

"Some buyout offers that are geared toward encouraging early retirement will offer medical insurance until Medicare kicks in at age 65, and might also sweeten employee pensions."
Make sure you get it in writing and beware the fine print. My former employer offered an early retirement package. A year or so after 8,500 volunteers took the package, the company started cancelling and/or weakening the retirement benefits previously used as bait.
