Re: Predictions for U.S. stock market in 2007
Ok, here is an updated summary (after removing Nords' fake prediction):
Number of predictions: 23
Highest prediction: +15% (mmg2681)
Lowest prediction: -29% (Running Man)
Average: +4.70%
It seems that as a group, we are a bit more pessimistic than Dr. Siegel:
http://finance.yahoo.com/columnist/a...reinvest/18829
"Markets here and overseas are still reasonably valued and corporate earnings should continue to move upward. Hence I believe 2007 will be another good year for stocks, although returns will not be as high as 2006. U.S. stocks should return about 8%, with foreign stocks doing perhaps a little better."

With one week to go, VTSAX is up 4.97% YTD. The average prediction was 5.59%, so this group was pretty close.
Three people predicted exactly 5%, and as of right now, they would tie for the best prediction:

For all of 2007, the Dow gained 6.4% and the S&P 500 rose 3.5%, both hampered by a weak fourth-quarter performance. The Nasdaq was the best performer, climbing 9.8%.
It looks like VTSAX is up 5.49% YTD for 12/31/07

And the winners are....
Sandy
ExCFOnowRVer
They both predicted 5.50%, and the actual return of VTSAX was 5.57%.
This group was amazing. The average prediction was 5.59%.
