Medicaid and Long-Term Care-Kiplinger
Have gone through this with both FIL and MIL. First FIL went to nursing home and MIL stayed home. Had to do the spend down, then get FIL on Medicaid. MIL entered nursing home about a year before FIL died and is still there. Pays to understand the rules, and can unfortunately be very emotional for the family, particularly when others think assets (small as they may be) should be hidden.
We are very grateful for this safely net as MIL progresses further into dementia.
