Rebate debit cards can reload Amazon balances

(I did a quick search and didn't see where this had been mentioned before so apologies in advance if it's a repeat)

I find the prepaid Visa or MC debit cards you get for rebates to be a royal PITA because you cannot use them to pay towards an amount higher than the balance on the card at most retailers (brick and mortar or online).

Found a trick today - you can use it to "reload" your "Amazon Gift Card Balance" which then can be applied to an Amazon order of any amount. Note that you cannot use it for a partial payment as a debit card (at least I couldn't figure out how to do it).

Hope this is useful to someone else out there!

I didn't know that. Thanks!! I also find those rebates to be a PITA - I've had a few expire before using them

I also see an offer on my amazon account "Get a $10 bonus when you reload $100 or more for the first time" so doubly good.

Good Tip!

I loathe gift cards - end up whittling them away and writing the new reduced balance ($17.23, $5.48, $1.36...) on the card back, forgetting they are in the wallet, and then throwing the damn things away with a buck or two on them. Hate that.

Now I load them onto Amazon.
