retiring into a crisis--how would you handle?

It's times like this that make you realize changing the age of RMD's to 72 years was a blessing in disguise. I'll be 70 in a month.

Fortunately we've just closed on our last house (sale) and are sitting on sufficient cash to last a few years.

MegaCorp recently paid a bunch to move our defined pension into an annuity and they paid us to go to the open market on Medicare supplements. They're essentially divorcing themselves from all retirees and any future liabilities associated with us. May be a blessing in disguise to us if the economy goes south on them.

I retired 11 years ago in the midst of a crisis. I would be very careful retiring in the present climate since the equity market has bombed. I was fortunate to have a severance package that was first class. But the stock market has recovered since my retirement, and it's expected to eventually come back after the virus situation is over.
