rollover ira questions

hi,

I have two 401k accounts from two ex-employers. should I have one rollover IRA account and merge them together or have separate rollover IRA accounts?

I have the impression that the merged rollover IRA account could not rollover to 401k account later. but I may be wrong.

I live in NY.

Many thanks,
sem

I had a bunch of 401K's , and over time rolled each over to it's own IRA.

Finally I got smarter and merged all the 'rollover' IRA's together, but I had no intention of putting them back into a 401K.
I did keep them separate from the regular IRA.

There really isn’t a difference any more, unless you had after-tax contributions to an IRA along the way.
Not much benefit to keeping them separate, to my mind.
Some 401k plans allow roll-ins, usually on a case by case basis. If you are thinking you want to do that, then probably better to ask the administrator if it is possible first.

Late to the posting, but if you have a Stable Value type fund in your 401k with a current yield >3%, then perhaps consider keeping monies in your 401K in this fund to use as a portion of your Fixed Income AA.
