Roth eligibility

Long time lurker with a question, Does participation in a state sponsored pension plan perclude you from contributing to a Roth Ira if you meet the AGI limits?

Re: Roth eligibility

Turk,
The ability to contribute to a Roth has no connection to the type of retirement plan you have at work. The guidelines for a Roth are a simply a function of your AGI.

I'm wondering if you are confusing the ability to contribute to a Roth with the ability to deduct contributions to a traditional IRA. Now THAT is dependent on whether you have an employer-sponsored plan. If you do, then there are income limitations for the deductibility. The state sponsored plan almost assuredly will figure in your ability to deduct the contributions to a Traditional IRA.
