Full time employment: Posting here.
When I become eligible for SS at 62, my son (who lives with me) will be 16.
I understand that I can file for benefits for him and he will potentially receive up to 50% of my full retirement benefit (which would amount to roughly $1400 a month until he is 18).
My question is, do I have to begin SS as well in order for him to receive benefits? I wasn't planning on starting SS until after FRA.
EDIT: I was able to find the answer. I do have to file for benefits in order to be able to file for my son as well. Mods, please feel free to delete.
