My usual SS comes mid-month. This morning my bank tells me that I've received a small SS payment of $54. The SS website just says "special payment" with no other explanation. Obviously some sort of adjustment.

Anyone else? Any idea why?

I got that last year- first a payment for $23, then another for $230! A letter eventually arrived (weeks later)- some sort of adjustment for filing on a delayed basis. In my case, I was collecting Survivor benefits on DH's record and switched to my own on 1/1/2022. I turned 69 on 2/1/2023. Apparently they underpaid me during 2023.

Mystery solved. Got a letter from SS. It's a refund from when I switched Part D from Humana ($54) to WellCare ($0.50) on my first SS check this month.

Apparently they gave me the refund before my mid month benefit check which for this month is $54 short. Next month my check will have the extra $54 in it. Same for DW...so we're up $108 a month.
Plus a drop in one IRMAA bracket and a 3% raise, and, we're in the money! Whoo hoo!
