Tax Question: 1st Year of Desig Roth Contrib

In Taxact, filling out the 1099R form for my Roth Conversion, one field asks for "1st Year of Desig Roth Contrib" and the two options are 2006 and 2007.

What does that mean?

Relates directly to Box 5 on the 1099-R. Details can be found by clicking on the "Form Instructions" icon on the right side, which should be the same as what's on the back of the 1099-R.

After saying that, I still don't really understand what it's all about either
