Which of these was the biggest story for you, or was it something else?

Ignoring all these big picture items, my top story was that my portfolio grew. :)

#1: Passage of Health Care Reform
#2: Release of the U.S. Deficit Commission Report
#3: Riots and Protests in France and Greece Over Higher Retirement Ages
#4: The Challenge of Generating Adequate Income from Retirement Savings
#5: MetLife Halts Sale of New Long-Term Care Insurance

All of the above.

I'm astounded at all the issues that could have an impact on my future retirement :(
 
I'd say the continued drop in housing prices.

Most people who post here weren't expecting to use their housing equity for retirement spending, but we're unusual. I'd guess that lots of Americans felt good about retirement when they saw their house prices go up, and disappointed when they went down.
 
Frankly I would think the precarious position of many municipal pension plans is a rather significant one as well.
