Unable to get an IRS ID Pin for minor

Long story short: My minor son is signficantly disabled. We've managed to get ID Pins from the IRS for us (the adults / parents) but we are unable to "confirm" ID for him online. I have been calling the IRS hotline (844-545-5640) to get an in-person appointment with the local branch to get pins for him, and each time the system hangs up on me saying they are overwhelmed with this request and to call back the next business day.

Even more horrific, I DID have an appointment with the local office earlier in Jan (2022). They sent me a card two weeks prior to the appointment date CANCELING the appointment. Now, I'm unable to even set up an appointment with the local branch? I guess unless you OWE taxes, they aren't interesting in spending time to help you.

I am frustrated beyond belief. Has anyone else had success getting an IRS ID Pin for a minor?

Thanks!

Do you need a PIN for your son? You can leave his blank if you don't get one by the time you file your tax return.
