Vanguard ETFs and fee-based advisors.....
Good article, and its true this is starting to catch on.........

I'm amazed that someone would pay an advisor 1 to 2% to buy Vanguard ETFs or funds for them.

Payment to an advisor for mutual fund advice is the same as paying 2 managers to invest your money. There is an inherent contradiction.

One of my best friends is stuck with Amerprise adviser. I'd be delighted if instead of her sticking him in EIA offered by Riversource/Amerprise, and load mutual funds with >1% ER, she instead only charged him 1%/year and stuck him in a balanced portfolio of Vanguard funds.

You're making two big assumptions

1. The all people will create a balanced asset allocation and stick with it

2. The only value of an advisor is choosing investments

Both in my experience are false
