Vanguard Website

I have not been able to access Vangard's website since Nov 5 (from Bangkok, Thailand) I have tried other computers and servers but no success. When I enter www.vanguard.com in the address box, I get "The page cannot be displayed" screen.

Anyone else having problems accessing Vanguard?

I was able to see Vanguard's Australia site www.vanguard.com.au

Re: Vanguard Website

Weird...

Thailand has begun to block/censor some websites, so maybe they inadvertantly blocked those subversive capitalists at Vanguard... Almost four years in Thailand and never had a problem a before.

Re: Vanguard Website

I had the exact same problem with the Vanguard website a few months ago (in the US). I could get into every website except Vanguard. Power-cycling my modem and router solved the problem.

Re: Vanguard Website

Some possibilities:

Vanguard has detected a large number of hacker attempts from a range of IP's from Thailand, and have blocked those IP's.

A server upgrade or server swapover could have missed a range of assigned IP's. I have had this happen to me for some US-based forum servers. Getting ahold of the webmaster and providing your range of IP's to them, they then can check with the server gurus to see if they can see those IP's. When I have done that, after a while the response was "uh, oops... should work now". And it did then.

Of course, if you can't get to the website, you probably can't get ahold of the webmaster! I had email addresses from someone else on the forums that I had separately communicated with, so I could work around the dead in the water problem and get to the webmaster.

Unfortunately many Thai IP addresses are known child porn spammers. Many servers have those IP addresses on their default "block" list.

I say "unfortunately" because my Oahu ISP happened to use a lot of IP addresses in that range, and the old E-R.org server had one of those default block lists. So Vanguard has probably locked you out for what they deem to be a good reason, if indeed they're even aware that they've done so.

Re: Vanguard Website

Have you tried a proxy server/website? I know there was a discussion of that on this forum recently, with links to some proxy sites (used to circumvent Megacorp internet blockages for employees surfing on the clock).

I couldn't find a general email address for vanguard on their website. They have a form email screen where you enter your email in your browser window, but it is hosted at the vanguard.com extension. careers@vanguard.com is the address if you want to get a job there.

Re: Vanguard Website

Thanks for the suggestions.

I've tried deleting cookies, etc, but to no avail. Vanguard has definately blocked Thailand out. (I've asked friends to accesss Vanguards site; all of them receive the "the page cannot be displayed."

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Vanguard is really starting to tee me off. I've email them a couple of times at Vanguard@evoyager.evanguard.com but no response. I've always defended their customer service, but perhaps my praise was misplaced. This Vanguard webpage access issue makes me question my keeping about 90% of my investments with one firm.

Long live Fidelity!

Re: Vanguard Website

Maybe Billy got a way to get Vanguard to accept collect calls. I, on the other hand was told that they don't accept them but that they would call back if requested.

Good luck.

Re: Vanguard Website

Billy intervened on my behalf. Vanguard had some security issues, so they shut the webpage down (in Asia) . Customers abroad? Tough luck...

I remember "Cute Fuzzy Bunny" saying that Vanguard's customer service was crap. I resisted CFB's remarks and (stupidly) trusted in VG...

CFB was right; Vanguard is not responsive to it's customers.

Well, customer service is a business where we customers pay in advance for what we never knew we needed...

And FWIW I think TH has a majority of his ER portfolio with them. He just doesn't expect them to be able to handle his customer needs.
