Just curious, what do you think is a reasonable age to ER given a balanced lifestyle and a decent income? Could help a few Young Dreamers who may, at times, overdose on ER thoughts.

Bare Bones spending plan:

No nestegg.

Live in paid off tear-drop trailer parked out in the desert.

Eat at Costco (free samples).

Shower in city gym.

But at least you are not sleeping in the park !

Another way to look at it -- if he had retired at age 50, he would never have been President, and would not have been able to patch the USA back together after Nixon's debacle.  As for the money -- he can donate any extra to me (or to a more worthwhile charity, if he would rather  ), or to his kid and grandkids.

Yeah, but in this case answering that phone call had a "happy" ending.

I suspect that there are at least as many stories of people who wish they'd NEVER answered that phone call and would have been happy to retire at that age...
