Well I guess first I'd have to contact Healthcare.gov and update my income.
Seriously, I'd make sure my one sister could retire comfortably. I'd have to set something up with Vanguard, Fidelity to ensure the money stayed invested in a normal AA, else they'd pick cash!
Life would not change much, more travel, new vehicle. Be a lot of fun to give a bunch away to folks that really need it!

I have never won anything in my life but will buy a Powerball ticket tomorrow.
If we win, after investing part of it for ER, we will use the rest to:
1. Help the start ups at the incubator in our local university and
2. Give money to the school district to upgrade their labs and hire more qualified teachers for STEM classes.

Buy a Beech King Air and hire pilots to fly for Angel Flight West. Donate enough to my place of worship for them to have a building of their own rather than renting.
Put some in 529's for grandkids

I'd buy my Dream House..... Oh wait! I already did that.
I'd give lots to F and to my daughter, maybe in SPIAs for them.
Maybe I'd leave tips that are 20x the cost of the meals, at restaurants, just to brighten someone's day.
But for me? Gosh, I'll have to think about that. My life is pretty happy right now.

But thanks for the thought.

This forum makes me go look up things that I would normally remain ignorant of.

I have a question about this. If you win the powerball and the lump sum is $500million and the winner tells lottery officials he wants to split the winnings 4 ways.....himself, his wife, and 2 adult children I believe they will accommodate this request. Much like when an office of 20 wins the lottery.
The reason I ask is because this would decrease estate taxes down the road to the adult children since they each received a share at the time of the winnings.

I would do everything I can to stay completely anonymous.
I would create an organization that helps support community arts groups around the country-live theater, music groups, etc. An LLC, like Mark Zuckerberg is supposedly doing.
I would keep some of it and make sure DS has a nice chunk to invest. I would fly first class, travel more and do some upgrades on the house. I'd bail my cousin out of his mom's estate Medicaid bill and set him up with a nest egg. Not sure about other extended family and friends. Too many behavioral issues there. Which is why I want to remain anonymous.
I will buy a ticket, for the entertainment value of thinking about it.
Of course, one's chances of winning are about the same if you buy a ticket or not!

The chances are about the same, but one option does come with an iron clad guarantee.

DW and I talked about this. I'm getting a new iPhone. And hardwood floors. Maybe buy a place that already has hardwood to avoid the hassle.
