Accomodation in North East Florida Anyone?

Hi:

Myself and DW are planning a trip to Northeast Florida, JAX, St. Augustine, Palm Coas Etc. We are looking for some budget accomodation. The In-House Suites in Orange Park is full. They Charge $200 per week ofr a small room with Kitchen. Does anyone know of a similar type of Suites Hotel in the Area. It does not have to be close to anthing. The Orlando property has vacancies but we would like to be a little nearer to St Augustine.

Any help would be appreciated. I have tried all the web sites and they only quote Daily rates which amount to $350 weekly.

There is an In-Town Suites on the Southside of Jax, on the corner of Beach Blvd & St. John's Bluff Blvd. It's about 10-15 min from the beach as well.

Hmm. There does not appear to be a lot if information on this. Other than In-Town suites, I cannot find any other reasonable long term furnished accomodation in the Northeast Florida area. We should probably do the house sitting route. As we have been doing that for a while for family in Canada.

You may want to check out La Terra in World Golf Village. This is a GREAT location. It's less than 5 miles from downtown St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach. It's a brand new resort and spa, that would be a lot nicer than the in-town suites IMO. They are showing studios from $1440 a month plus tax. That might be more than you want to pay, but if it's not, this would be a great choice for you. I don't know if they have availability.

Did you try a hostel search? Quite often they often dorm and private accomodiations. Usually an interesting mix of folks staying there....

Check out a bed and breakfast. There are a couple of web sites that list them. When travelling on business, I used to find that when the hotels are full, the b&b's are wide open...at least during midweek. I had a couple lined up in each city I travelled to on business. They can be very inexpensive by the week as they usually only get booked on weekends. Good deal for you and good deal for the innkeeper. Extra good deals if you tell them you dont mind if they skip the 'breakfast' and that they dont have to make up your room every day while you're there.

That is a little too rustic for us. More for the back packer types. Something like an extended stay suite would be great, around $1000 per month. We will probably go with the In-House suites in Orlando and spend the odd night in Palm Coast and St. Augustine. We may even rent an apartment for 6 months or so. We would just prefer furnished for now.

For such a long time an apartment seems the way to go. I think you will be hard pressed to find an extended stay place for around $1000, especially since all sorts of interesting high taxes will be added to the final bill.

You can easily furnish an apartment with gently used stuff from the local www.craigslist.org site (probably got to use orlando.craigslist.org). We got lots of stuff from there, even our latest house. Kinda like the local free ebay.

You can also place an ad on craigslist- everything free of course. They have categories for sublets, housing wanted, roommates, vacation rentals and housing swap.

I have had good results negotiating special deals with B and Bs
(I negotiate everything). Not sure I saved a lot of money,
but it was almost always way better than the local Super 8.

The last 2 years I worked (PT) in Dallas, I stayed in an "extended stay" efficiency. It worked out quite well for one week per month.
I was surprised that a few people who were there when I began were still living there when I left. I understand the convenience
but it's an expensive way to go for the long term.

FWIW, the rates in NE Florida drop dramatically after Labor Day. We went to St. Auggie in Mid Sept & it was 90 degrees, uncrowded & cheap. Couldn't have been better.
