Though the thread title could also be "Here's to hoping FIREcalc and every other calculator I've found isn't lying to me"
Started from nothing, saved up over the years as a business owner, lived below my means, calling it a day with $4.5M'ish (all properly asset allocated and plenty of time to ride out market cycles).
Medical is covered through the VA (free) and Tricare/Johns Hopkins as a backup ($500/yr/family). In addition to the nest egg I receive a pension at $1,800 month tax free. Save for the $229k mortgage balance, I'm debt free right now.
Retirement for good? Highly unlikely since I just turned 34 last month, but financially independent where I can work where/what I want to do without being tied into something I don't care to do.
Keep at it fellow Young Dreamers (in that forum). It may seem daunting at times, but it's possible to do.
