Athens, Georgia

Anyone have any comments about living in Athens, GA? With low cost housing, college, and interesting downtown (not to mention the state's new anti-smoking law), sounds like a possible good place to retire? Current or former residents have any pros and cons?

I live in Atlanta. I would recommed looking at areas outside of Atlanta. The cost of living outside of Atlanta is about the same as Athans. In Cobb county real estate taxes are reduced once for those over 60.

I think most of the guys from the band REM live there, so it must have some good qualities!
