Blow That Dough! -2021

I don't see anything wrong with that either. DW and I have taken many, many solo vacation trips over the years. I'm always happy to get away by myself, and she has a list of female friends who are happy to accompany her to places I have no interest in if she doesn't want to be completely by herself. Honestly, even though we love to travel together to places we both enjoy, I've never understood the reluctance to go on your own to someplace that only you have an interest in.

In the spirit of BTD AND the current thread drift:

Reminds me of one of my (old, now) bucket list items. I wanted to drive from BC to BC (British Columbia to Baja California) on highway 1/101. DW couldn't think of anything less fun to do. I stewed a while and then mentioned my dilemma to a good (female) friend/mentor at w*rk. She said "go by yourself but invite your wife to tag along." That's what I did. I sweetened the pot by taking DW to the Worlds Fair in Vancouver and to her business' Trade Assoc. national meeting in San Diego all on the same trip (with a week in Vancouver staying with her ex sister in law - a close friend of ours.) It was an amazing journey, with lots of problems (rental car break-downs, attack of the giant slugs, feeding PB and crackers by hand to a mamma raccoon in Big Sur, maxed out credit cards - due to bad management, one "fight" - minus bruises, of course.) All-in-all, it was one of our most bonding experiences. My w*rk friend is long since gone on to her reward, but I still give thanks for her suggestion. As always, you need to know your own spouse/SO and even then, YMMV.

Life got easier

I decided to upgrade myself from a wheelbarrow to a new dump cart for my Cub Cadet riding mower. I’m all set for the season. First chore is to repair some patches of missing grass around the yard. That may get done tomorrow if I feel like doing it.

A large suite, with outside deck for fresh air, get room service for meals.
both vaccinated, relatively safe.
Sit back and enjoy the view.
Don't need to go to the casino, etc if you don't want too.
Or go by yourself
If you can't get cash back or extend the credits, what else can you do?

Good News!!! Now the we have both been vaccinated, DW has allowed that she WILL go on a cruise!
I just spoke to Princess, and they have extended the expiration date of our credits until December 2022 because of further cancellations.

Princess will push it out as far as requested. Mine are now "book by 51/2023" to cover my April 2023 cruise. They're being much easier to work with and I'm thinking with today's CDC update, it will get easier

Yes, good news. The floating petri dish will sail again with both on board.

The thing that bothers me most is the fear. I dunno, but I feel that a lot of folks have way more fear than I do. Too much news? I dunno.

I'mma gonna still live my life as large as I want!

Great for you!

Nice little garden trailer. I have one and it’s very useful. Way better than a wheelbarrow for larger jobs.

I dunno those vaccination requirements are pretty stiff, necessary but stiff. Getting the staff done will be the biggest issue IMO.

Each to their own. I have no interest in a vacation unless my GF comes with me, other than maybe a weekend golf getaway or something like that.

With high vaccine availability it seems possible.

I know a lot people here where vaccine is available and it ain't happening. Will they find enough trained staff that is willing to be vaccinated is the big question.

We've got LVP in our basement at the new townhouse. We did it because that's where the dogs live when we're there. Ours looks like wood, to the extent that we usually have to tell people it isn't. The feel is a bit different, there's a bit of flex to it, but nothing major. DGD rides her trike, the dogs do what old dogs do, I've got my shop down there. It's amazing stuff, and I would recommend it hardily for the OPs purposes.

We used https://shawfloors.com/flooring/vinyl/tile-and-plank
You can order direct from Georgia Carpets online. I got Karndean Longboard Looselay LVP for 3.13/sf: local stores were charging 4.99. It is very easy to install, and I am not super handy. It looks great, is quiet, soft and durable. Even if you pay someone, you'll come in well under budget.

Somehow I expect there will be incentives, including having a job.

Bonus money would be nice too....it seems odd that they zeroed in on requiring cruise ship employees but not airline employees...

Cruise ship were floating prisons for days with massive spread.

Air travel showed no such characteristics and related spread was well under what might have been expected.

Cruise travel was purely recreational, air travel not so much depending of course on the passenger.

Thus different rules.....

We have about $10K in cruise credits that expire next March. I would love to use them to do a California Coastal cruise in a large suite.
I have a BIG problem, DW at this point refuses to go on another cruise or "floating Petri Dish", as she calls them.
Any suggestions?

I just checked our Princess FCC to see when they expire. To my Happy surprise Princess extended the expiry date out to the end of 2022
This makes them more likely to be used, as my DW is reluctant to cruise until 2022.

I don't disagree but you could also say that airplanes disburse people to many different places..

I get the feeling that rules will be adapted and changed as we go along.

For those of you that love cruising at least they are being proactive in trying to restart things.

Now the question is will they get fully staffed and will they fill the ships.

Government had lots of options to restrict travel including shutting down domestic flights, but they chose not to do so. Some states did shut down flights arriving from other states with large outbreaks and require arriving folks to quarantine during parts of the pandemic.

A lot of cruise ship staff are from developing countries and in greater need if the m9ney.

If the way to get cruises going, and thus for them to get incomes again, is for staff to be vaccinated, would they still refuse?

It appears to me that most people throughout the world would be grateful for a vaccination. I'll leave it at that.

We decided to blow that dough big time and booked a trip to Australia and New Zealand for October 2022. Something that has always been on our bucket list, but the distance and cost had a daunting effect.

Since our travel spending shrank so much during 20 and 21, we felt it was time to let loose and finally go for it. Getting excited already!

Wow! The usual touring company?
