There must be a good reason you signed another contract. Enjoy the additional (maybe last) year!

OMY. You also make a difference in the lives of children. My reason for being an independent contractor.

My son's elementary school principal was the greatest thing since sliced bread, as were his dedicated teachers.

Thank you for all that you do. But please feel free to retire next year!

Thank you-
I opened a new elementary school two years ago and i feel I haven't gotten it to where it needs to be (for the children and staff). My wife says that i don't come home from work bitter or angry so i must not be ready to retire yet!
My goal is to retire before that happens

Welcome. I didn't think about the fact that I'd be considered a homemaker until I filled out some paperwork and if you don't have a job it assumed I was a homemaker. Enjoy retirement, however, you may end up working more than you think.. at least for me I know cook much fancier and nicer meals as I have the time.

pulled the plug feb 14.
plane ticket feb 15 to my new house in az.
Every morning I wake up, i am sooo happy. I have not had one day that I regret I don't have to work
I am a little on edge that my portfolio has had a significant decline (not huge) starting the day I retired.
Not even the slightest thought that I will ever work again. I love every day, and every thing I do.

I can't believe I'm posting this, I've been a long time lurker. Intense dreamer of retirement. Its happened!
Loving it, but in the back of my mind I think I'm going to wake up and realize it was a dream.

That's funny... a month after I retired, our house was randomly selected to be one of the Census Bureau's survey homes. So now, every month, I get to talk to a very nice lady, and each time I debate whether to have her put down that I am "retired" or a "homemaker", and the same for my wife. (Given we have a preschooler, my wife would say she is definitely not "retired", and nor am I allowed to be "retired".)

Less than 90 days to go!
I went through a few weeks of doubt, seeing how Mr. Market has been going down lately and I can't help but extrapolate... But then I did a lot more accurate tax estimate, and discovered we'll have about 10% more to spend than with my original tax estimate. So now I'm feeling good about everything again. In a few weeks I'll be sitting down with my manager. That's what really feels like the point of no return.

Well, last year DW and I nailed down my retirement date as April 30th. Obviously that date has passed and I am still working. There were a number of personnel changes late 2014 and early 2015, then the announcement that we're being bought out by another company. I decided to stay on a bit longer and try for a severance package. So I guess it's maybe ~2MQ for me, but still planning to make the jump at 53.

Work is so-so and I'm doing fine. Some days I dig in and feel good about the job, and other days I just try to do a solid job without letting it stress me. Seeing the exit looming is helping my atitiude

Someone on here posted (and DW wrote it down) "Just enjoy the security and peace of being able to retire at anytime you want". I have it at my desk. Occasionally I just pull it out and smile.

I'm excited to read about others as they retire and you guys all inspire me. There's still the mixed emotions over pulling the plug on a career and a substantial paycheck, but I know there's more satisfaction on the other side, and enjoy reading your tales here. Each day I'm a little more convinced it's time, but I'm fine waiting just a bit longer for what may be a better exit reward. Time will tell. Thanks.

No mas...

Was done in March, just now decided to go "public" and stop lurking. I don't know many (any?) FIRE'd folks in my "real" life, so it's good to hear of others out there. The day I FIRED was one of the best in my life, except for the day I married DW.

I'm preparing for the big R in December. Last day will be the 16th. Moved the old 401(k) to my IRA and set up CD's for the next two years' living expenses. Invested the rest in Vanguard Index Funds - Total Stock, Total Intl Stock, Total Bond and Total Intl Bond. We decided not to buy an RV, but rather to get a Thule Roof Box so there's room in the back of the CRV for two big dogs. We will take a month away from Vermont this coming spring to flee mud season and stay in dog friendly cabins in the south - Suggestions very welcome!

Last day was Friday July 17 (OK; I will work 15 hours/week online starting in September). Checked on my mother in Ft. Worth over the weekend, then drove to Reno Monday and Tuesday.
I hiked in the Reno mountains Wednesday evening and tonight (Thursday).
Have to admit it feels a bit strange.
