March 26 is my birthday. I will turn 58 then, so I thought it would be much cooler to retire at 57 yo and 363 days than at 58.

So I submitted the letter today....

So have been kicking this around for a few years knowing that it would be either 2017 or 2018. Well it looks like it will be 2017, and more than likely March 1st. I may wait a little longer in 2017, but if I have three bad days in a row, watch out.
This has been planned for over ten years so pretty rock solid. I will be 52 and my DW will retire in 2020. So besides watching my newest grandson, I will probably either volunteer or pick up some P/T work to keep busy. Due to my pension it made no sense to stay in any longer. Once my DW retires we will only work P/T if we love it, or we will volunteer somewhere, maybe even stretches outside the US.
Keep checking all of the spreadsheets, just cause I am that type of person, but I have got to remember to keep my head in the game until next March.

So this morning, I submitted my letter outlining my retirement plans and dates. Where I work, this is important so I can help with the transition and because I'm quite safe from any retaliation. But the question is, my last day of work will be December 22nd, 2016, and using vacation time until February 28, 2017 and begin FIRE March 1st, 2017. This is still Class of 2017 isn't it??

Hey, room for one more? We made our decision back in March when I told my wife we are basically FI. I'm 53, DW turns 50 next month. My plan: I get my annual retirement contribution from Megacorp in mid-Jan 2017. February marks my 25th anniversary with said company. I want to reach this milestone; it's important to me. My last day will be around 2/10/17. Plans are to take glassblowing and pottery classes, get more involved with helping those in poverty locally and globally, work towards becoming bilingual in Spanish, travel, and RELAX. Can't wait! Only 100 or so days at w@rk!

Sorry to hear that, timo2. I can relate as am in the middle of TMY with one year to go. If you are still planning to retire in ABQ, rest assured that housing continues to appreciate at a snail's pace. Probably not so much in Santa Fe

Sorry to hear that, timo2. I can relate as am in the middle of TMY with one year to go. If you are still planning to retire in ABQ, rest assured that housing continues to appreciate at a snail's pace. Probably not so much in Santa Fe

We sold our house in Golden, CO while the prices are way up, we were afraid they might drop and we would kick ourselves (I think it was the old Joe Kennedy that said 'only a fool waits for top dollar). But moving to Fort Collins to a rental was strenuous, so much so we can't imaging moving again in 2017. so it's 2018 for us.

ABQ 2015 kindly added me to the list but I am revising my age to 64 1/12 (64 years and one month) not 64 1/2. I already feel like an old timer compared to others on the list and it might be cheating to consider myself RE. However, having no pension and having funded college educations for two daughters (one with a masters and the other with a PhD) I feel fortunate to being able to retire. Both daughters funded a good chunk of their education and the PhD was a fully funded program but I helped with walking around money car insurance, gasoline etc which I was happy to do to help both graduate debt free.

Taking the plunge next year!

Well I'd like to join this Class of 2017 group since my last day of actual “w***” will be sometime around Thanksgiving in ’17, and then Payroll will run my vacation out to Jan. 2, 2018, I’ll be 57 then.

My DH will be retiring at 54, at the end of June ’17. I’ll be taking several weeks (5-7) of vacation to join him for some summer time off then return to “w***” for a few months final push and DH will work some seasonal work then too. Then after Thanksgiving it will be off to Florida for the winter!

I have been lurking and learning on this forum for years now and was actually set to retire back in Feb ’15 when I turned 55, but when my DH felt he wasn’t ready to take the plunge we then decided to target ’17. Well as they say, ”the days are long but the years are short” and soon we will both be heading into our final year stretch!

And Indigo Mule, I can soo relate to a lot of what you wrote! The Pre-Retirement process over the last several years was quite over whelming and was truly unexpected for me and my DH, but I believe that it has helped me achieve a sense of well-being that will work well for the next phase(s) of our life’s!

Here’s hoping for a smooth transitional year for us all!
