Awesome!!
I was planning to exit June 30, then after July 4th, yesterday I was saying Aug 30, today I think I can make it to Sept 29. Scooping up a few more paychecks for immediate play! New windows in my vaca home, and porch fix up. Thanks for the inspiration!! I'm really getting excited now, instead of scared. I've had a paycheck job since I was 14, but for 18 months once between two big jobs. It's gonna be weird. But I'm looking at all the fun things I want to do and I'm excited! I might take basic horse back riding lessons, safety and all that. Haven't ridden since I was a kid. I could take it up as a hobby if I like it. That's what it's about--freedom! Keep havin' fun!

Hey 68bucks, your situation sounds a lot like mine. Plan to work until Thanksgiving Eve then off for 13 weeks until real retirement date kicks in so I can get a bit larger pension.
Can’t wait to be in your shoes!! Fourteen or so weeks left... it seems to be getting more real by the day. Woo hoo! !!

Welcome to OMM. Just like me.
Due to my false starts, my cow*rkers and boss are now assuming I'll have another month.
Nope!
Had to remind them again yesterday, that I AM DONE in three weeks. It has to stop sometime!

Yeah, I've always been cautious, so this is true to form for me. Also getting Dr. Checkups and overdue PT. My coworkers know nothing about my plans so some probably think I have some urgent health issue. Meanwhile I'm healthier than the millennials. Hah! Jokes on my coworkers. 9/29 and I'm outa there.

At 56 and 34-years with the same company, I'm out August 31st! Gave 3-months notice on May 31st. Plans are to continue cycling my tail off; weight room; spend time with wife and family; hike, spend more time at beach condo and enjoy good bourbon. Worked with two financial advisers and FireCal. All said good to go. Will use bucket strategy. Have 401k and pension along with wifes pension. Also have beach condo rental income thats not figured in to any calculations.

Yes, 3 buckets.
Preservation (Less Risk):6 years of income; Guaranteed Acct; Bonds.
Balanced (Moderate Risk): 6/10 years of income; stocks/bonds
Growth (Greater Risk): 10+ years of income; long-term stocks
We also can take early retirement at the company at 55yrs old and 25 years of service therefore can w/d from 401k w/o the 10% penalty. Have cash reserves and no plans to w/d from 401k until next year. Not a pro at this stuff. Lots of folks here smarter than I, but this is my plan. Also helps that DW is on board with the fact we have tracked every penny we spend so we do feel we have a good handle on what expenses will be and also have cash reserves for stuff that can come up. Company will continue to pay health insurance until I reach 65.

Tell us more. Have they started scheduling you for wrap up meetings? A party? A lunch? Have you started filling out departure forms?
You have been planning for a long time. I know it's impossible to serenely glide down for a landing in the final frenzy, so I wish instead for you that it passes in a flash.
And plan something celebratory on the other side that DOESN'T require any stress.

It is strangely normal. The only wrap up is if I'm working on something, I'm supposed to drag a few people in to explain what I'm doing.
Parties? Lunches? Etc.? None planned. Not sure they care.
The form consists of going to a web page and pressing a button after entering a date. I will do that next week. That's all it takes.
I'm thinking of some ice cream on the other side.

I suspect that a lot of our efforts at project wrap ups and knowledge transfers are a well intentioned waste of time. If your megacorp is like mine we are no more than one deep and no one has time to really focus on the knowledge transfer. They will learn when things blow up, and that is with the colleagues who have been around long enough to know what megacorp is in the business of doing. It is rare to be able to transfer institutional knowledge to a college new hire or a junior salary grade in general let alone within a 60 day window before exiting stage left.
One of the comments from this community that really resonated with me was not to postpone retirement because of how the company will be impacted, because when it comes to RIFs, megacorp never worried too much about how its timing would impact the "resources" who are layed off.....or words to that effect. That doesn't equal bitterness, just an acknowledgment that it's just business.... for them, and it should be for us too.

Ed B: YOU WIN! Spot on, friend.
I know how the meeting will go already, because I saw what happened with someone who quit earlier.
There will be a meeting. I will present information. People will be on their laptops solving other problems since the stack is high. No questions will be asked except: "Did you record this?"
2 months from now when it blows up, nobody will remember the recording and they will learn by walking through the fire.

Updating the list
I think it's time for an update -
This was the most recent update I could find, done by Joe Wras back in June. There have been changes and additions, so update if you can! And congratulations to those of us already gone, and wishing courage and endurance to those in waiting.

Pulled the pin on May 15 and vacationing out until my actual retirement date of October 6, 2018.
Started my first real job, a paper route when I was 9 years old.
I worked in a service station and the hay fields when I was in high school and started my career in the paper mill six days after high school graduation in June of 1974.
I took one year off to go to college and decided it wasn’t for me so continued on at the paper mill for an additional 42 years.
Not the most glamorous career, lots of physical labor, long hours and shift work but it got me to where I am today.

Got out of MegaGov on January 1, 2018 after 34 years. DW gets out mid next year. Took till August for them to ask me to come back but no desire to do so. Lots of Skiing and golf in my future plus some RV and foreign travel when DW calls it quits. Also plan to move back to home state Oregon when DW is done. FI'RE is a great lifestyle and never thought it would happen to me till I started running the numbers a couple of years ago.

It is nice when things go generally to plan.
I started this thread with a 5 year horizon. Although I had a few false ends this year, today was the day. WOO HOO!
I still have a few things to do to really feel like I am there. I have to get this medical stuff sewed up and get on another plan, as I explained 5 years ago.
Megacorp never offered anything. So it goes. I walked out proudly on my own terms, and that's just fine.
Today was great. No more commute. Sleeping in tomorrow, and then starting the journey. It has to sink in a bit. I'm slightly at a loss for words, although I was able to drop a few thoughts in the Surprisingly Emotional Today thread.
I'm looking forward to posting from the other side. See you soon!
