Class of 2021

Well, I gave my notice a month ago and turned everything in this past Friday. I am calling this a semi retirement since I did take on a part time consulting role, working from home. Due to pandemic, I will continue to consult since I can arrange when I put in the time.

I will see how it goes, and how long I can take it, and as soon as it cramps my life balance I can always move to full retirement!!

It feels great, and I’m doing a happy dance right now, woot.

Alright I'm targeting October as my out date! Not sure how I'm going to make it as I'm ready to jump ship NOW. But Oct is the end of my contract and we still have covid etc, so seems like a natural out point.

We are planning a trip to Egypt March 2022, so the plan will be to take the last quarter of 2021 to start the detox, then line up some plans after the holiday for my first year post magacorp :cool:

I'm keeping the option of working part time or contract work open starting after a full 6 month 'sabbatical' but we'll see how it goes.

Are you me? All of your points are similar to mine - I cannot wait until travel is a bit safer! Egypt was where I should have been this past November :(

And I am looking at the first 2 years jobless as a test - both emotionally and financially. If it makes sense to consider earning $, I'll consider it. But of course, I'd rather not if I can avoid it!

BTW congrats on the line in the sand!

I hear that! You will see my name on the list for either March or September. I really want to go in March but I’m a director over a local public health department and we are currently trying to get people Covid vaccinations.
Part of me really wants to see this through but the other part is just done.
I have no plans to work after retirement. I think I will have plenty to keep me occupied.
I suspect it will feel weird for the first few months but I will adjust.

Thanks! Long time coming.

We were going to do Egypt this fall for SO’s bday but figured might as well push. March is supposed to have the best weather anyway.

How is your joblessness going?

Yeah the whole “responsibility” thing. You’ve got a good reason. I imagine you’ll look back and feel good you were part of the solution. At least that’s what I’m telling myself since my main task at the moment is keeping people working.

The list is really weighted toward the month of March.....guessing the reasons...mine is to stuff the Roth then leave...and better weather, hopefully the vaccine by then.

Mine is to turn 55 so I don't have to go gray area for the rule of 55. And RSU's vesting in Feb.
 
I picked March because it’s my 1/2 birthday
month and it matters for my pension.
My backup date in September is because that is my birthday month and I won’t be working past September- if I go past March.
I really want to go in March!

Well it looks like I need to change my screenname! I submitted my retirement papers effective 4/1/21 with last day full time 3/31/21. I will offer to come back part time (after 1 month mandatory break in service) to transition/train incoming staff on the position. Leaving 2 years ahead of schedule because my BS bucket completely overflowed this year. DH will continue working until 65 so will continue to have insurance through his work. I am so looking forward to that month off where they can't even talk to me!

OP, I retired at age 54 in 2000 when my kids were 7, 11, and 17.

I submitted my resignation the first work day of the new year and of the new millenium.

My last day worked was "leap day" February 29, 2000. The first leap day of the new millenium. And there would not be another "first leap day" of a new millenium for anther 1000 years!

I did all this on purpose, and now thinking back, it still gives me a good feeling. Having enough control over my fate to be able to time things to such "out-there" standards. A real good sense of control that I could retire in such a "flippant" way. (Sort of a backhanded way of flipping the bird to my employer and the still-working stiffs who had been my bosses).
 
It was not unexpected, but it was still a momentous occasion for me. I submitted my paperwork today for a Separation Agreement. Il est finis! I will finish up in summer.
 
Retire 2023 is checking in, even with his/her ungainly name! :)

Had a great chat with my boss today. Finalized the package and date. Still 31 Mar and the package is the top of what I thought. Life is good.
 
Putting a real date on my departure now! My last day on the books will be 5/15/2021 but I am having some medical issues and will take some or a lot of leave between now and then. It's likely my last day logged in and working will be well before 5/15. HR is aware of my last day for retirement calculation purposes so all I need to do is sign the paperwork and send it in.
