I'm planning to give my notice this week with a final date of 4/30.

I'm so excited, can feel the stress really starting to ease. It will be interesting to see how these next 8 weeks go as I transition my work and they realize how much I do.

Congrats to all those who've already retired this year, I'll be joining you soon!

Glad both that your situation improved, AND that you will cast off from the dock soon, CSCS.

As expected, Friday was my final day at work. Since the start of Covid, most folks have been working exclusively from home. About 40 co-workers came into the office for a surprise send-off. It was great!

Now I am just waiting for a sense of reality to settle in...

Just got the call from my boss. Last day is this Friday (vs. 3/31), which is fine. Severance package is a bit more than I had planned. Waiting for the letter from HR to review. Life is surreal.

Congrats to all the new retirees!

About a week ago I stepped down from my management role (with 2 months to retirement) and am now mentoring my replacement. Or at least that was the plan as I had a minor surgery last week and have been out on medical leave but the mentoring should start when I return. Turns out 33+ years of expertise in my field is going to be missed once I FIRE.

I go back to work Monday on a part-time basis until my retirement date. Nine weeks to go!

Hi, thought I'd pop in and say Hi! Congrats to all of you finishers so far!

I am still tracking for "Summer." It is surreal and my mood seems to vacillate between happy excitement and worry. Numbers are good but I watch the market like crazy.. not that I'll act but looking for signs of a derailment. The end game is much more stressful than I expected when I started plotting in 1998! The numbers are easy, the psychology is not (no identity wrapped up in my job but I am risk averse and am breaking away from some pretty nice golden handcuffs if I could last another decade).

I'm pretty apathetic at work as BS bucket has been full and with the insane market rebound the FU funds bucket is overflowing (on paper!). I feel in limbo and don't want to burn bridges by waiting too long to tell but don't want to "commit" to leaving yet. I'm tentatively planning on telling my "work friend"/boss in confidence as soon as he is accepted publicly into a development program near the end of April (he's the only one other than me that has done my job in 20 years and they'd possibly screw him if they know I am leaving). I hint constantly and have made it known I'd like to go PT (and they may offer PT if the option is gone quickly -If they do, I will set the terms that I train my replacement and do special projects and not into a process rut). About 6 weeks from my target date, I will give "formal" verbal notice through my boss and will follow with written a 4-week notice. I really look forward to giving notice as I'll be coasting and in control from that point-I expect it to be quite exhilarating. (Gov't so no risk of being walked out early)

Outside of w*rk, I am still enjoying my side-gig having fun tending bar a couple days a week at a friend's taphouse. I'm also meeting next week to possibly get one night a week at the brewery down the street -I'd like to get a foot in the door and possibly help out in the brewery once FIREd. I spend a lot of time thinking how I'll spend my first day of freedom as well as a routine going forward... it sure fills up fast.

I look forward to adequate sleep and exercise!

Long time lurker, but I gave my notice last week with 4/15 as the last day.

It was really exciting at first, but my boss wanted to keep it quiet for a week or two while working on some org change stuff. It's been a little bit of a let down having all of this initial excitement, but then not being able to share it right away and just getting back to normal work schedule.

I'm age 46 and married with a few teens still around, and can't wait to relax and focus on the things I enjoy doing! Next 3 weeks better go by quickly.

Wow, congrats! Welcome to de-lurking, and congrats on such a young departure date.

You can add me to the 2021 list too. My official retirement date is April 30th, but my last day at the keyboard will be April 8th. I will use up my remaining vacation time to reach the end of the month (no payout option.) FWIW I was originally planning to retire last March, but the lockdowns and working from home were reason enough to work one more year. Things look a lot more promising now, at least here in the good ole U.S. of A.

I actually had to retire twice because my boss completely ignored the first notification, which was in February for a March 31st date. We met and also talked to HR and the upshot was that I agreed to work one more month so I had to cancel my March retirement and do the process over again. Mainly I wanted to avoid a big gap for my team, but my boss took 3 weeks from my second notification to post my job, so there's not going to be time to do KT with my replacement anyway. I should've just retired in March as planned, which is what all of my friends advised me to do. Oh well, at least now I have a good answer for the next thread about "how much notice should I give!"
