It is interesting looking at my post 3 years ago. It is looking like mid to even late 2022 is much more likely for me.

As for why, the market didn't have the decisive recession I was hoping for, leaving room for a W-recession to possibly happen. The other factor is I slightly underestimated cost of cat care, insurance is basically mandatory, and the fact I did have it for a big event needs to be made up for a bit, it also helped me realize I'm just not the type of person to let a cat die if they have a 50%+ chance to live, even if it is really expensive.

Since making this decision I'm feeling about 15% less anxiety at work, knowing that the end is in sight. 7 months and 17 days, to be exact, according to my new countdown app on my phone. I've always been a bit of a perfectionist so there's no way I can just coast through until the end, I'll continue to work long hours trying to do my best.
Wow I wish I felt the same. I致e set January 5th as my notice date, and ever since I decided I feel even more stress and disinterest. Now I知 having a hard time imagining making it to that date, plus the 60 days notice I知 intending. Covid has made my job more demanding, which is part of it, but maybe I知 just done.

Well, my ticker that I use to determine whether I can retire in Apr 2021 just ticked positive today for the first time. That makes me happy. Tomorrow it may go negative again, but that's the way it goes. Life is good.

Good luck to everyone in the Class of 2021! I will be following along to track your progress. I知 not able to retire that soon myself but it痴 great to hear success stories to keep me motivated to continue to save and prepare for when I will retire.

Definitely subject to change, as it has done many times before. But I like the symmetry of retiring on my birthday, since that's the day I started at the company in 1993. It makes sense, too, since one of my responsibilities is our annual budget, and that will get us through one more planning cycle (which usually ends around 7/31) before saying adios.

Beyond done

Today at w*rk my manager had a meeting to tell all her managers (my level) that due to starting a new project but not having a contract or funding in place for the work that we would be losing *some* of our consulting staff. I am losing 50% of my consultants and one manager has it worse, she is losing 75% of her contract team. Our work is not really decreasing and we were basically told to deal with it.

Soooo.... the first day I'm eligible to retire with full benefits is May 15. I might stay another week to finish the pay period but if I can I will work out a deal to take all my PTO (2 months or so) and then come in the last day to turn in my laptop and badge.

Adding my date now to the list:
