Class of 2021

Well that’s a brave move, considering your not 100% sure it’s forever. Good luck and hope you avoid being sucked back in.
 
After 34 years and 32+ years with the same large law firm, I left the world of billable hours and too much job stress behind on August 31. Not exactly early retirement at age 62, but it was time. I received a very nice send off the weekend before at the office’s end of summer gathering, which was quite nice to hear. DW and I are very much looking forward to the next chapter, but I confess not getting a paycheck for the first time since 1987 will seem just a bit weird.

Class on 2021 pulled the trigger

Well after a little hand wringing…… handed in my notice at mega Corp after the best part of 25 years in the business. It was too cosmic not to miss the opportunity to literally have my 55th birthday be my last day at work (Oct 15th) ! Been planning for that date for quite some time and am confident we will be fine if we stick to budget.
Exciting and daunting……… getting some “what are you doing ?” responses at work but the majority of people I work with directly have confided they would love to leave too…….
Good luck to everyone else in class of 2021 !
 
I'm down to picking the right day to give my notice. I want to retire either the first of October, November, or December....but definitely this year so I can cash out my PTO balance while I'm over the social security cap. I'm just waiting for a couple last things to fall in place, as I'm only planning on giving two weeks of notice.

Will be checking on that. The third-party company that manages the retiree health benefits told me that retirement date "must" be on the end of a month. Not sure that I agree with that but no point arguing on it yet.
 
I did it! We haven't agreed on an exact date yet but should be mid-October. Will update ASAP.

Congrats to all my classmates!



So far I am loving not w*rking. I'm not really doing anything that sounds exciting, just slow-living and enjoying the moments. Paradoxically, I feel somewhat more time-constrained as I keep thinking of more things I want to do and try now that I have the time! Alas, even not working, the day is still only 24 hours long (but the full nights of sleep -averaging 7-8 vice 5-6 when working are fantastic). The remaining ~16 hours fly by!
 
Moving myself back to 2022; my boss begged me to stay longer; promised her two more months to February 2022.

I’ve set 10/8 as my last day! It’s been so fun watching everyone’s reactions. By and large they are all very happy for me.

I guess this is the week for notifications. I gave my notice today 9-23-21 for a retirement date of 12-30-21. It was touch and go for a while but I'm going to stay in the class of 2021.
I hope I did the quotes correctly. I guess I'm about to find out!

Well the day finally came! I retired at 56 from my Fed job on Monday the 27th with a nice (low key) send-off. I already had my bags packed and took off from Texas for our home in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I have to say, I already feel more relaxed. No more meetings, writing performance reviews, or work travel and no more having to be somewhere on someone else's time.
The final year took a long time - perhaps due to the interminable nature of the pandemic - but it did finally get here. I have to say, "hang in there!" to those who are still looking at the countdown app on their phones like I did.

West Carolina is nice. My gov retirement is 1Dec 21 and only 12 years of service, although I am retired Navy calling it quits at age 61.
So, you are leaving Texas while I am heading to Texas lol
