I’ll admit to not getting the word, but I screwed up. I thought the gold/yellow letters were in the right space. Didn’t figure that out to be wrong until I got a green one in row three. By then I was too far underwater. Oh well, we’ll see how I do going forward.

I’ll add it to my routine. Similar to a few others, I do the spelling bee and the NYT mini every morning. I like them because they get me thinking but they’re short enough to not encompass my day. A major flaw I have is that I need to finish. So, if I paid for Spelling Bee, for example, it would kill me if I couldn’t get all the words. The free version cuts you off after a few words - good enough for me.

Edit: LOUIE is accepted as a guess, so names are ok - though I hope none of the answers are names.

I use suite for my first word. Board for the second depending on what shows up with the first word.
That gives me all 5 vowels.

ROYAL would get that pesky Y in there as well for the second word. So many possibilities!

Indeed. I’ve also used query but suite seems to get me more hits.

I will admit to not getting the word one time--it was the day a letter was used twice in the word. To me that makes it much harder.

There is a wordle result tracker bot on twitter. It pulls from the stats everyone posts each day (the share result block - no words or letters, but rows and completion).

Every day it shows about 2-4% share not getting the answer. I'm sure there are many more who skip sharing that day!

Wordle 213 4/6

⬜🟨⬜⬜⬜
⬜⬜🟩🟨⬜
⬜⬜🟩⬜🟩
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

I was really stuck at 3. I ended up writing down all the possibilities for 2 char based on what I knew and what I could eliminate, and it finally jumped out at me. I should probably let the caffeine kick in first, my 2nd guess, I could have used a variation of my selection that included a very common letter.

Hmmm, sharing these blocks can be a bit of a spoiler if those people have also discussed their 1st words... I haven't, but I think from now on, I'll just say "Got it in 4".

AND I hooked my DH too.

Two days, two wins but had to use all 6 both times.

Thanks to OP for giving me this daily fun!

I've been playing several days a week and each time I've solved it in 4 tries. Very odd.

Wordle 213 5/6

Got it in 5, but was starting to get nervous as I was stuck on 3 correct letters for a few guesses.

Yeah. I got todays word. I was worried that I’d fail again and have no excuses for not knowing the rules.

ETA: Now I just need to figure out how to show my results. It looked fine when I pasted it into my post, but when I submitted it, the colors turned into ?? ?? marks.

The pasted results should show if it was in hard mode the whole time... it's three different games. Hard mode, normal mode gut feel, and normal mode prescribed word (letter coverage).

I got today's in 5 with little effort with the nivin 4 word set.

ETA: I tried my word set in a private tab, just for grins. Worked similarly, but not quite as obvious as the nivin set. BTW, instead of BIGFY (beer is good for you), I discovered that bigly is acceptable and gets coverage up to almost a nivin level. And if that brings something to mind, please don't go there.

I didn't spend too much time on this, but the above 3 words gives me 84.2% coverage. Can anyone think of three words higher than 84%? A puzzle within a puzzle!!

I have not tried the Sengsational approach (of getting lots of coverage in three words, then piece together that info). I have only tried a "good" (i.e., high-letter frequency) starting word, then taken it from there.

However, I took the first 15 letters from Sengsational's list, put them into an anagram solver, and asked for a list of all the sets of 3 words of 5 letters each.

I was amazed to find that there are 4349 such combinations. (E.g., Decal Humor Pints, or Caned Thrum Spoil.) Any of these combinations give 87.5% coverage.

^ And that explains more to me why Hard Mode exists. If you just type in the same first three great coverage words, I think it's less fun. Hard Mode prevents a "AUDIO RENTS GLYPH" approach. I may turn Hard Mode on for that reason.

ETA: Got it in five today in Hard Mode.

Nice game. I got lucky the first time and got the word in 4. Maybe all that Quiddler we play helped . We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Jeez, I just tried the same approach for the best 4-word sets. There are 18,249 such sets, each of which gets you to 96.9 coverage.
