I took early retirement in 2012, when a too-good-to-pass-up layoff deal came along. Since then I've finished a Masters degree, a coaching/counselling qualification, and recently handed in my PhD dissertation. (Oh, and I've been causing trouble: https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/02/meet-data-thugs-out-expose-shoddy-and-questionable-research)

Today DW handed in her notice at w*rk, with a last day of July 31, just after her 62nd birthday (July 11 with accumulated vacation days). After that we're going to start spending the kids' inheritance. Probably a lot of travel is going to get done, and we plan to move to Spain once DW's French nationality comes through.

Exciting times ahead!

Congrats. Sounds very exciting.

Fascinating article. Congratulations and happy travels to you and your wife. I'm sure some scientific study authors hope you are gone a lot... [emoji23]

Congrats! Keep us posted on the travels.

Interesting academic pursuits. It's good you are FIREd ;)
