Judy's absolutely right. It doesn't take long to become a burned out nurse.

Re: FI - RE = ??

Navy trained nurse - 6'3'', 245 lbs. top shape. In 25 plus years we've known him - I don't think he's made 5 yrs straight without a 'burnout break' - toolpusher on the oil rigs, French Quarter cook, and the last head groundskeeper for a major Gulf Coast Casino(except for the golf course).

After a two year break - back to nursing this year. In his Navy/ VA days - guess who he got to handle because of his size/physical strength - talk about commands/stuff rolling downhill.

Thanks Tozz, for feeling my pain

You know, I love the patients for the most part, but like many others on this forum it's the 'weasels' that make any job difficult.* And of course, GratefulEd mentioned the endless paperwork.

When I don't have to work for money, I'd volunteer to be a doula.* Seeing new life come into the world, what could be better?

Something about making a fulltime job of helping people that leads to burnout. Used car salesmen can go one and on- they get a kick out of hammering your ass. But the poor nurse, struggling along with a good heart, just trying to keep her head above water in an awful environment gets burned out.

One of the first things I plan to change when I become God.
