Playing alone and necessary peer review: To further
support the key System premise of peer review, scores
made while playing alone will no longer be acceptable

Acceptability of Scores)
I like the change.

While you're never going to eliminate sandbaggers (cheaters), this change does eliminate one of the opportunities.

The sport has honesty and integrity at its core. Many players are lacking such things.

Speaking of suspected sandbagging...

At Pebble Beach last week, the last place pro, Joe Affrunti, missed the cut at 33 over par. Yet his team was nine under. In the 3rd round Affrunti shot 88 but the team shot 68. Affrunti parred 22 holes and birdied only 4. I realize that this was a better ball competition, but it just seems unlikely that the amateur partner was somehow able to play net 5 under on just those other 28 holes that Affrunti made bogey or worse. Without scorecards and the amateur's handicap we'll never know, but I wouldn't be surprised if the amateur sees a modified handicap soon.

Edit: A quick search shows that the amateur was listed at a 15 handicap...

there is always the "sandbagging" index, which is no more than 4 shots above the low two tournament scores

I like the HRT proposed by Knuth. I think I'll use that (if necessary) on my upcoming golf trip. We take an 8-some & usually make small wagers on games that allow us to all play our own ball.

Doesn't bother me as if they post that score it reduces their handicap and they can't do that stuff in tournament play.

Some Good...Some Not So Good

I played Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday this week. We're having great weather & I was able to get in some nice rounds, all on different courses.

I started off great, setting a personal record for 18 on Monday. I degraded some on Tuesday, shooting 1 stroke over par after adjusting for my handicap. Then, on Wednesday, it all went to sh!t, and I shot 9 strokes over par after adjusting for my handicap. Wednesday was a new course for me, I walked and it's a very tough walk but, man what a frustrating round. It's the variability that bugs me the most; not just the total score but, within the round (i.e.: par, double, birdie, triple, GIR+3-putt, etc.). I think I need a more structured and consistent practice routine.

Hit my new clubs at the range today for the first time other than at demo day. Taylor Made M2 driver and 3 wood...M2 irons (6-AW). Kept my 3,4,5 Taylor Made hybrids from old set. Like the new clubs a lot. Irons have very high launch angle. Taking them out on the course tomorrow for the first time.

I'm jealous! We're waiting for things to dry out here. Temps have been up, but the soil was saturated BEFORE the 3 consecutive days of rain. I'm hoping to get out next Monday.

Wet here too, but I got in 9 holes today. March winds arrived a little early today, but it will help dry out the course. Plan to play 18 tomorrow.

My usual comment/snide remark when I hit a good shot is "Well, it's not the club".

Like Patick Warburton says in the National car rental commercials, "What's it like to be the boss of me?" "Pretty great!"

I have a golf buddy who marshals once/week for 6hrs, then he gets free golf & range balls whenever he wants. Sounds like a good gig to me.

I bought a practice putting green to use at home. I chose "Big Moss" based on reviews, size & price. It arrived 3 days ago & I'm really enjoying it. It's such a luxury to be able to go out on the balcony & practice putting for 30 mins whenever the mood strikes, versus driving 30 mins to the practice range, practicing, then driving 30 mins back. It seems to be helping so far, hope it transfers to the course.

Very cool. This past winter I put in a 10X9X9 cage with mat and skytrak in the garage and have been hitting balls a lot. Convenience is important. And for me . . . more lessons!
