My husband retires Wednesday.
 I'm so happy for him. He has a good state pension and can pick up consulting jobs in the future if he wants. He has really worked hard all his life and I am going to be so happy to see him do all the things he loves to do. He loves volunteering at the dog shelter, fostering dogs, spending time on my daughter and son-in-law's ranch with the grandchildren, their horses, chickens and dogs.
I feel like I need to work a couple of more years to hit our financial savings goals. We'll see. But I do share in the joy of having one of us retire this week!

Congratulations for both of you.
After 7 month in I can only recommend to retire together.
But his retirement might make your life easier, too (if he is a good man...).

Then I think you got a keeper there.
I often tell DW that I read somewhere that "Research has shown that no wife has ever shot her husband while he was doing the dishes".

Walt, I have heard that before and it has to be true! haha
Now on a somber note, my husband found a coworker dead in his office yesterday afternoon. He was younger than my husband and they don't know if he had a heart attack or something else. My husband tried CPR, but said he had obviously been gone awhile. What a horrible last week at work....I am so glad my husband is getting out of there. It's an extremely stressful workplace.

I was about to ask what your hubby will be doing all day, but then saw that he (or you) has got it all figured out.
Congrats!
About people dropping at work, one of the places I worked had a high percentage of geezers senior workers in the mid 50s on up. We often heard ambulance sirens during the work day, and looked at each other and said that another one was getting out feet first. Surely, there was often a funeral announced a few days later with details for coworkers to come to the wake.

NW Bound, that is sobering.
I have gotten used to my husband coming home every few months saying "Do you remember so and so? He dropped dead of a heart attack today. He was only 55." Or something similar.

That workplace posted the deceased employee stats and funeral arrangement on a bulletin board as a general announcement. In the morning coming to work, as we walked past it, we would see that. Many of my friends said "Darn, I want to be sure my photo will not get posted there. I've got to ER".
Well, we tend to forget that the Grim Reaper tends to sneak up on people as they get near the age of 60.
People like to say that they see all the times geezers in their 80s and 90s still healthy and traveling the world. They do not go to the cemetery to read the tombstones to see many people dying way before those ripe old ages.

Wow and congrats to the DH! Mine has been chilling since June last year and is still learning to cook and navigate the grocery store, but the peacefulness of him not being stresses has been a godsend. You will like the new him!
And sorry about the coworker. Gee, how awful!

Congrats to your husband and seems he has a good idea of numerous beneficial ways to spend his time. I believe this is a key component that many retirees do not address, what are they going to do once they leave work? You have a job to retire from, but what are you going to retire to?
Enjoy your final years of working and then you can both have fun in retirement.

I was not in good health the last years at my job. I made a pact with my co-workers that they'd drag me out of the office and dump me in the bushes if they found me dead at work!
