Poll: Okay ER Community, Fess Up. What Time Do You Wake Up?

The PJ's thread inspired me to start this (I am easily inspired).

I go to bed and get up with the chickens. In bed between 9-10 and up around 6. I like having the early 1-2 hours for me and the mutt. Got up early my whole life. Chores on farm before school, then paper route before school. Then a long stint in the army. At mega-corp, exercise prior to office. Thought I might change once retired, but 16 months in and the birds outside are my alarm clock most days.

What say you?

I used to get up at 4:30am for my mega-corp job.

Now I go to bed when I feel like it (typically between 12:30am-2am) and get up whenever my eyes open up in the morning (typically 7:30am-8:30am).

I love being able to sleep until whenever. This freedom is one of the great things about being retired.

The few times a year that I have to be somewhere on time, I sort of resent having to set an alarm.

Usually between 5am and 6am. I go surfing early before the wind picks up. In bed before 10pm.

I almost always get up within a half hour of 7:00...whether I go to bed at 10 PM or 3:00 AM. But the 3:00 AM nights are what naps are made for

I wake up more than once on a typical night. Is this question "what time do I wake up the first time" or "what time do I get out of bed?

I wake up between 7 & 8, but get out of bed 8-8:30 and later on weekends as I am usually out late.

My alarm awakens me at 11 AM. Often I feel like I could sleep another 2-3 hours after that, but instead I dutifully arise at 11.

Who would have thought? Before I retired, I thought I was a morning person but apparently I'm not. Honestly during my first 61 years, between school, work, and motherhood, I never had the option of sleeping late like this.

During the summer when it's so hot during the day I am up before 7am so that I can enjoy some outdoor walks before the sun blasts down. This requires me to go to bed early too.

But now that it is a bit cooler and I don't have to exercise so early, I sleep in until even 8:30 if I want!!!

Go to bed 8:30-9:00, watch a little TV in bed. I get up 4-5 times in the night but usually get back to sleep quickly. Wake up out of bed at 6-6:30.

This is what I go through too. I usually wake up about 2 or 3 a.m., then use my iPad for Netflix for awhile. I then take my thyroid med at 4:30. I then set the timer for a half hour before getting out of bed.

Three hours at the gym, four days a week, means we get there early (0500-0600), or else the day is too advanced when we are done.

"Rush hour" is more or less all day, where we live. There are so many, many workplaces that flextime is very common. The only "lull" I have observed is a modest one, between 1000 and 11:30 on weekdays. That's when I try to schedule appointments, if at all possible.

Saturdays, we usually sleep in until about 0730.

Pretty hard to answer. For the past 4 years, my total of 3 hours/day of sleep can come at any time. between 6PM and 6AM... Occasionaly 4 hours, but rarely.

Sort of like this for me. I had to get up at 4:30 and I am by nature a night owl so I'll sleep in until 9:00 or even noon sometimes. One of the best things about retirement!

I go to bed between 10-12. My dogs get me up between 6:30-7:30. If I am tired we go back to bed after taking them out.

How awful! Don't you feel sleepy on only 3 hours/day? I am very impressed that you can even function on so little sleep. If you don't feel rested, then you indeed have my sympathy. Insomnia is no fun.

I generally sleep between 7-9 hours, with additional afternoon naps on more days than not. Maybe once a week I will sleep more like 4-5 hours at night. At least I can catch up later. I went through a period of insomnia a while back, and hated it.

I'm discovering I really am not good at sleeping in anymore, which is bad because by preference I'm a night owl and stay up really late. I'm trying to convince myself that being in bed before 10pm is something I should do, but it wars with my desire to stay up till 3:30am playing video games or bingeing netflix...

Even with no alarm set, I'm generally awake by 8:30. It seems to be light driven, partially, so hotels I can sleep later, but some of it is body rhythms and those really just require me to go to bed earlier if I want to get 8 hours sleep. What I can't figure out is why I can't motivate to get those 8 hours when my normal 5-6 leaves me feeling so much worse than the occasional 8+ nights...

I set my alarm for 9AM (as I really do not want to be in bad that late), but I naturally wake up around 6:30 AM.

I usually go to bed around midnight. Interestingly, if I go to bed early (like 10PM), I will wake up in the middle of the night, around 3, and then it takes an effort to fall back asleep. My body just seems "tuned" for about 6 hours of overnight sleep.

I wake up when the sun arises me. It's been a little after 7 lately. I guess next week it's gonna be 6am.

What's the alarm clock thing people are talking about?
