Not that I know anything about colors, but that green door looks out of place with the interior. Nice cabin, though!

You are probably right about that, but during a downpour this weekend we discovered a leak in the roof. A leak in the sewer system has also appeared, and DH and I discussed this weekend weather to keep patching the decrepit pier or look into total replacement.

Piers would concern me. No idea what that entails. I think I have 60 hours of labor into mine. It's been fun .

You're right. It didn't look like I expected- I'm much better at analysis than decorating. I have a hard time explaining this- everybody looks at me like I'm nuts- I don't want it to match, and I don't want it to look terribly nice. I want everyone to feel comfortable putting their feet on that old trunk, and sitting on all of the furniture with wet bathing suits. I don't want to worry about scratching the counters or keeping the floor spotless- its a camp. It looked too "decorated" before- really who puts suede upholstered dining room chairs in a river camp??

The door doesn't look right though- I might take some sandpaper to it and let the previous colors show through- or paint it white and then sand some off so you can see the green paint through...

The pier is worrisome. I don't want to replace the top if the ones below (that you can't see so well) are not sound. We know that some of the foundation piling is unsound- we can see it. we are concerned with what we can't see. Water levels drop significantly in the fall. We'll get someone to do an in depth inspection then. We knew we might need to replace the whole thing sooner rather than later. We factored that cost into the purchase price when we decided to buy. Also the kayaks, swim mats, jet skis....

Got back up last weekend. Put in the deck safety fence. Nice to have that done!!! Here's an in progress shot, along with some visitors at the spring. Almost got the outside where I want it. Need to install the woodstove and chimney next.

Earlier someone asked me about swimming with alligators, and i replied they don't come around much- which is true. But my nephew (who is borrowing our cabin currently) sent this pic of (what he says is) an 8-9 foot gator swimming by our pier

I'll snap a pic next time the blackbear comes around my backyard. Hopefully after the neighbors raised their feeders, it won't be too soon.

Oh my!

I'm waiting for something "interesting" to show up on my game camera. Only deer and turkeys so far. Been told we get the occasional cougar thru the area. We have a spring on the property that goes year round. Should be interesting in winter when the nearby stream is dry and water is needed by animals.

The wife started her major cabin project today. Painting over the 70s paneling. Today she had a work crew of kids and friends out to clean and prime.

Meanwhile, I finished the safety rail on the rear deck.

In unrelated news, oldest daughter and her boy that is a friend saw a bear cub while hiking a few miles away. They didn't hang around for Mama Bear.

It does! Its not great, but edible. We sent the pic to our neighbors to either side and one asked "did you hit him?" the other said they hoped we got the picture with a scope and not a zoom. It is gator season around here- so we told everyone who has a tag where we saw him.

Last summer we were visiting some friends in Lucedale Mississippi. We were sitting on his deck overlooking a beautiful lake with a small island in it . He was explaining how his German shepherd got bit by a copperhead when his wife asked how did a rug get onto their little island. He gets his rifle with a scope and yep it was a gator . he shot the gator , I asked if it was legal ?? He said it would have been illegal if it got one of the grand children . He skinned it cleaned it and froze it . His gator was maybe 5'

My wife and kids had some time off earlier this week. Painted the inside.

I'm headed up tomorrow to install the wood stove. Then, I THINK!, I'm done with major projects for the year. Maybe.

I too have a lake house my father and I built in 1980. I'm building a 24' s 36' boat barn right now with a 14 foot ceiling and tall garage doors big enough for a 24 foot boat and a car.

Then I am retiring from building anything ever again. Since we are now at real retirement age, I am going into defensive mode to protect my health for the long term future.

This weekends cabin repair was unique. The 50 year old Grundig radio needed a new tube. I diagnosed and replaced. Also put up a dog gate on the patio.
