Yesterday's outing
I went for a wander through the old part of town yesterday with a friend.
We came across a group of photographers (they hunt in packs) but also got a few shots myself.

The Photographers' Corner
Reminds me of the old conventions, where a bored model would stand up on a platform while a bunch of wannabe fashion photographers tried to produce fine art *grin*. Some of them even had film in their cameras...

It was quite funny. They told me for $25 I could join in the group - I declined.
They had four groups of photographers and four models. There was a guy with a loud hailer who would go between the groups and tell them their time was up and move on to the next model.
Not for me!

Not for me either! I would develop a severe "attitude problem" and suggest that he perform an anatomically impossible act with his hailer.

Walt - I felt sorry for the 4 models who were being gawked at by all of the photographers (although they are probably used to doing it indoors and not in 35 degrees heat and humidity).
Ronstar - thanks. The B & W makes it look like it was cool and windswept - instead of the actual 35 degrees it was.

My reply would have been, "For a thousand dollars I'll spend the day teaching you how to take photos good enough that you won't have to look like a pack of geeks trailing a model around trying to get a lucky shot. For an added bonus, I'll teach you how to get your own girl to pose for you."

Hmm, I believe I would have to have said, 'get off of that tomb, you disrespectful idiot!', just to see how many of the cameras would have been turned on me, semi-lol.

Taken from the balcony at 6am this morning as the high rise buildings emerge from the fog/smog.

Very nice! I'd be interested in what/how you work with your B&W after the shot; I've been learning color post-processing in GIMP, haven't run across much discussion on B&W workflow...

Thanks - I bring the shots in lightroom first, generally set the highlights as low as I can, then edit in NIK Silver Efex Pro (now google). Efex Pro is the B&W part of a separately purchased plugin and has a bunch of presets. I pick a preset that I like, adjust brightness, contrast, and structure, and sometimes set control points where I can edit parts of the photo. After saving, it goes back into lightroom where I sometimes increase clarity and sharpening.
I do some stuff in GIMP, but only on the color shots

Ronstar - great shots.
Can you post the originals? Interested to see how much processing there was.

Ok - I'll find them and post the originals. They are in color though. I'll think of something

That's interesting.
The original photo of the statue - I probably would not have given it second look but you have processed it into an interesting photo.
Same with the photo of the dog.
I think I need to spend more time looking at my photos and having a bit of imagination.
Time....that is definitely lacking.
