Is the ferry ride more scenic than driving along the coast?
Also according to Google Maps, it's a shorter drive from Lugano to Locarno than from Stress to Locarno.
Will have to check bus and train options too, even though I will have a car. But I imagine parking availability and costs could be challenging in July.
I'm also looking at places like Villa Taranto in Verbena and also crossing into Laveno on the other side of the lake to check out the funivia there.
One of the places I most want to see is Monte Generoso, depending on the weather, as a day trip from Lugano.

The drive from Lugano to Locarno is not that scenic. It's about a one hour drive from Stresa to Locarno using the road that hugs the coastline of Lago Maggiore (SS34). The Ferry is more scenic but if you are renting a car, I would just drive. You can then drive to Bellinzona and then to Lugano.
I assume that you plan to visit Isola Bella while you are visiting Stresa. I did a video from our visit last September to Stresa and Isola Bella. It was our third time in Stresa.

I am planning on selling some photo gear that I no longer use. This includes tripods, a few long lenses, and assorted filters and such.
Many items will simply be given away to others or donated to charities such as Goodwill. All the stuff while used is in good very good shape.
But, there are a few lenses and some very nice tripods that I would like to sell and use the cash to purchase a smaller lighter camera. And to also buy more ink and quality paper for my printers. Any suggestions on how to sell such gear locally would be appreciated. Has anybody used a good service or neighborhood type group to sell photo gear? Any luck?

Are there green zones below the snow capped mountains now?
Or maybe with the drought conditions in Europe, not as much snow in the peaks as you'd normally see?
One of my favorite pics from Switzerland was one February, I went up to Pilatus and you could see how blue and green it was around the lake and then as you scanned upwards, you saw snow-capped peaks all around.

Yes there are green zones. They got a lot of snow in February and March of this year and more in early April. Zermatt looks really nice now. Much better than last September.
Are there any other mountain cable cars at that end of the lake or there's nothing that beats Pilatus, Stanserhorn and Rigi around Lake Luzern?
Wow you're getting a lot of sun.
The last couple of times I've been to Switzerland, was lucky to get one day of sun and then by the afternoon, the peaks were all clouded over.
In the 22 days we have been here so far, we have had a total of 8 days of sunshine. It rains a lot in Switzerland. This is why I bought a flex pass for these long trips. I keep plans flexible and visit regions that have sunshine. Lausanne is my starting point. The forecast is for rain through the week and into early next week. However, rain does clear the air for photography and it also creates nice cloud patterns like we got this week in Geneva.
That part of Lake Lucerne (lake of Uri) is by far the most scenic. Flüelen is nice on once side of town. The other side is very industrial.
There are actually some cable cars that operate in Uri. You pay buy inserting coins and they take as few as 2-4 passengers. These are not for the faint of heart.
Iseltwald Switzerland was once a peaceful village that we have been visiting for the past 32 years. The Netflix series from South Korea, "Crash Landing On You", changed all that. Now tourists from South Korea and Vietnam visit the village just to take a picture on the pier featured in the series. Now the village has installed a gate that charges 5 CHF per person to access the pier to take their photo but they still come by the bus loads and then leave. There is more to life and this village than selfies.
