Traveling to US Volunteer Opportunities?

Was just reading some old threads. Someone named nvestsly mentioned that he’d RVed around the country and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity along the way.

I find this idea intriguing—sounds more appealing than just wandering around aimlessly.

Anyone else do this? How do you plan something like that? How do you find out what activities are planned for where? I’d assume pick an organization and contact them directly?

TIA (and btw—I have just 15 more w**k days left!!!)

Not RVing, but, I volunteer with two separate Habitat groups. Here in the northeast they are organized by county. Groups seem to have little interaction with each other.

The groups usually have a website. (Usually not a very good one.) Look for a 'volunteer ' button somewhere on the pages. Ours use a web app called VolunteerUp. Create an account (for each group) and signup for a 'build' day. They'll follow up with an email telling you where to go, who to see and what work is planned that day. It's a very loose/self organizing team.

Not the same thing I know but about 10% or so of Peace Corps Volunteers are over the age of 50. If you are looking for a volunteer adventure, you may want to check this out.
